സൌത്ത് ലണ്ടനിലെ തിരക്കേറിയ കിങ്ങ്സ് സ്ട്രീറ്റ്. പട്ടിണിക്കാരും താണ വരുമാനക്കാരും താമസിക്കുന്ന തെരിവിലെ ഇടുങ്ങിയ വഴിയിലൂടെ ഓഫീസിലേക്ക് നടക്കുകയായിരുന്നു പതിനെട്ടു വയസ്സുകാരന്‍ ലോയിഡ്. നിരത്തിനു അരികിലെ കെട്ടിടത്തില്‍ നിന്നും തെരുവിലേക്ക് ഓടിയിറങ്ങി വന്ന ഒരാള്‍ പിന്നില്‍ നിന്നും ലോയിടിനെ പിടിച്ചു വലിച്ചു. മുഷിഞ്ഞ വേഷം. മുഖത്തു പട്ടിണിക്കാരന്റെ ഭാവം. ലോയിഡ് ഒന്ന് കുതറി നോക്കി. അപരിചിതന്‍ വിടുന്ന ലക്ഷണമില്ല. കയ്യില്‍ പിടിച്ചു വലിച്ചു അടുത്തു കണ്ട കെട്ടിടതിനകത്തെക്ക് കൊണ്ട് പോയി. എന്തൊക്കെയോ വാരി വലിച്ചിട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ഇടുങ്ങിയ മുറി. ലോയിടിനെ അയാള്‍ പഴയ ഒരു മര കസേരയില്‍ കൊണ്ടിരുത്തി. മുഖത്തു ഫ്ലഡ് ലൈറ്റുകള്‍ തെളിഞ്ഞു. ലോകത്തില്‍ ആദ്യമായി മനുഷ്യന്റെ മുഖം വായുവിലൂടെ സംപ്രേക്ഷണം ചെയ്യപ്പെടുകയായിരുന്നു. അടുത്തു നിന്ന മനുഷ്യന്‍ ഭ്രാന്തനെ പോലെ വിളിച്ചു കൂവി.
